Types of Hemorrhoids

There are two types of hemorrhoids present in humans and these are named based on their location in the human body. The internal hemorrhoid occurs inside the rectum and the external haemorrhoid occurs outside the anus.

Internal Hemorrhoids

Internal hemorrhoids develop inside the anal canal. Internal hemorrhoids are clumps of tissue within the anal canal that contain blood vessels, muscle, and elastic fibers. Conditions of internal hemorrhoids may include rectal bleeding, anal itchiness, prolapse and protrusion. Internal hemorrhoids often protrude and clot. The presence of mucus and blood is also a sign of internal hemorrhoids.

Prolapsed Hemorrhoids: A prolapsed hemorrhoid occurs when an internal hemorrhoid is forced or stretched until they are visible outside the anus. A Prolapsed hemorrhoids sufferer may feel a pinching sensation in the anus or they may experience a lump in their rectum. Prolapsed hemorrhoids are generally associated with itching, blood clots and bleeding. Bright red blood cells on toilet paper or blood in the faeces are usually a sign of prolapsed hemorrhoids.

External Hemorrhoids

External hemorrhoids develop near the anal opening which is covered by sensitive skin just outside the opening of the anus. External hemorrhoids cause symptoms when they thrombose (clot). This clotting produces a hard lump that has a circular appearance and it has a tendency to bleed on rupture.
