What are the Symptoms of Hemorrhoids?

Symptoms of hemorrhoids commonly include anal itching, anal swelling, anal lump and anal mucus discharge. Excessive straining, rubbing, or cleaning around the anus may cause irritation with bleeding and/or itching, which may produce a vicious cycle of symptoms. Draining mucus may also cause itching.

The nerves present in the anal cavity are inflamed and swollen due to prolonged friction and pressure. This pressure can cause severe rectal pains, especially when trying to defecate. A rupture of tissue around the anal cavity may cause blood to be visible in stool and on toilet paper. Pressure on hemorrhoids may also lead to leakage of stool from the anal cavity. Continuous moisture around the area as well as bleeding and mucus secretion causes itching and further irritation of the skin around the affected area.
